What To Expect

The Quality Engineering Technician will ensure that all material, both in‑process and incoming, meets Tesla’s quality requirements and specifications. This person will be responsible for identifying quality issues within the Semi‑Truck program manufacturing environment, leading investigations and root‑cause analysis, collecting relevant process and product data, and managing non‑conforming material. They will work closely with Production and Engineering teams to maintain a rapid response and drive continuous improvements to the production process.

The role includes conducting product tear‑downs for root‑cause analysis, creating and maintaining Quality Instruction documents, supporting Quality Engineers in root‑cause analysis of materialized quality issues, and establishing processes and procedures that ensure consistently high quality. The technician will assist in organising and completing Quality trials with Quality Engineers and support new line validations.

What You’ll Do
  • Maintain, update, and validate product and quality plans and control plans; lead line‑to‑line root‑cause issues/solutions to increase and maintain quality metrics and performance.
  • Develop and implement daily process/line‑specific audit plans for Quality Technicians; compile and review results with cross‑functional teams.
  • Serve as the on‑shift subject matter expert (SME) for process and product specifications that define quality in assigned areas.
  • Assist Quality Engineers during fault injection exercises and manage Issue Tracker actions to resolution; assist in the identification and resolution of manufacturing quality issues, contain parts or products as needed, sort parts for quality requirements.
  • Support training and coaching of Quality Technicians on root‑cause issues/problems and best practices for corrective action implementation and countermeasures.
  • Lead/participate in continuous improvement activities with Process Technicians/Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and external Suppliers; take part in ongoing optimisation of manufactured products with respect to both cost and production technology.
  • Analyse and interpret high‑failure product data independently, effectively escalating/root‑causing fallout alongside line Quality Technician and directly implement potential problem‑preventative action on quality defects based on increased data‑metric fallout rates and failed line‑side products.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in QS‑9000, ISO/TS16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, DFMEA, PFMEA preferred.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practices, 5S, TPS, TQM, etc.; strong aptitude with electronic test and measurement systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and wiring diagrams, knowledge of GD&T engineering drawings, and command of the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to lift and sort parts.
  • Effective communication of common issues and defects to leadership and management, assisting with solutions.
  • Capability to work in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment, providing line leadership and guidance; detail oriented with strong record‑keeping and organisational skills.
  • Ability to pull and manipulate data in SQL, basic statistical knowledge (capability, t‑tests, etc.); ability to use technology tools and business system applications to manage, synthesise, and interpret data.
  • Ability to operate relevant personal computing hardware and standard software.
