Position OverviewThe Chemical Safety Leader provides direct support for culture, compliance and continuous improvement initiatives related to occupational safety across all global Chemical Division sites. This role also supports secondary compliance for OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and serves as a corporate-level resource to site EHS and operational teams. The position reports to the Corporate Safety Director and requires frequent travel to U.S. chemical manufacturing sites.
Job Responsibilities- Lead the implementation of corporate safety standards across all chemical sites, ensuring alignment with OSHA and Milliken EHS expectations.
- Serve as subject‑matter expert on Lockout/Tagout/Tryout (LOTO), Line break and confined space entry procedures, Fall protection and working‑at‑heights programs, and Industrial hygiene monitoring and controls.
- Lead and coordinate safety risk‑reduction projects across chemical manufacturing sites.
- Serve as the corporate lead for OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) initiatives.
- Support incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and develop corrective and preventive actions.
- Facilitate safety audits, pre‑startup safety reviews (PSSR), and behavioral safety observations.
- Support the evaluation of new product chemical hazards in partnership with the Development team.
- Develop and manage a Center of Excellence for safety leaders to share best practices and training.
- Deliver training in key areas such as Haz Com, CPR/First Aid, emergency response, confined space, etc.
- Integrate newly acquired sites into Milliken’s EHS systems and daily management processes.
- Maintain and analyze data using the company’s EHS reporting system and develop performance metrics.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline.
- Minimum seven years of safety experience in a chemical manufacturing or process industry environment.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of OSHA regulations, including PSM.
- Proven track record leading or implementing Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, or Industrial Hygiene programs.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence at multiple organizational levels.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without requiring a visa sponsorship.
- Advanced degree (M.S. in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Chemical Engineering).
- Professional certifications: CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent.
- Experience leading VPP Star certification or major safety program implementations.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001, RC14001, or ISO 9001 management systems.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred).
- Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint for data tracking and reporting.
The role requires approximately 25% overnight travel to U.S. locations, depending on ongoing initiatives. International travel may be required on an as‑needed basis. Two chemical manufacturing sites within daily driving distance in Upstate South Carolina will also require weekly visits. Milliken’s aviation department provides shuttle flights to various U.S. sites.
