Asst-Lab Technical II – Veterans in Healthcare
Location: Spartanburg, South Carolina, United States
Position SummaryA Laboratory Technical Assistant accesses patients/specimens into the department by validating and keying correct account and collection information and orders lab procedures in LIS. The role processes patient specimens and blood products for testing, loads specimens onto automated analyzers, maintains inventory, places orders for supplies/products, performs departmental procedures, and handles instrument maintenance and issues blood products. The assistant must follow established laboratory standards and comply with behavior standards and department policies.
CoreResponsibilities
- Provide and understand the specific communication, developmental, and treatment needs of patients, families, and visitors ranging in age from fetus to geriatric.
- Perform instrument maintenance, and the loading of patient samples and RBC units onto instruments for testing.
- Maintain inventory levels (blood, reagent, supplies) within the department with all associated ordering, tracking, and documentation.
- Accurately perform blood component visual inspection for acceptance and issuance, and issue blood products in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records and track and validate the bi-monthly blood supplier invoices.
- Withstand the stress and demands of an active position while responding calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
- Work as a team member, demonstrating good interpersonal skills, and communicate professionally with physicians, management, and associates.
- Maintain stocked workbenches for the technical associates.
- Management reserves the right to modify, add, or remove duties as necessary and to assign other duties as required.
- Education: High School Graduate or equivalent
- Experience: Previous work in laboratory setting
