The role supports the pharmacist in medication preparation, customer service, inventory control, and regulatory compliance. The technician will also assist with inventory, controlled substances, and hospital pharmacy operations.
Position SummaryAssists the Pharmacist in the following areas:
- Customer satisfaction
- Processing medication orders
- Preparing and delivering medications
- Completing inventory control functions
- Additional assignments given by Pharmacy Managers
Education
- High School Graduate (or GED)
- Graduate of accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
Experience
- None required
License / Registration / Certifications
- Registered as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy intern with the SC Board of Pharmacy
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification and State Certification
Preferred Education
- None specified
Preferred Experience
- Hospital Pharmacy Technician experience of 1 year (Clinical Area) or Retail Pharmacy 2 years experience
Preferred License / Registration / Certifications
- None specified
- Follow attendance, dress, education (including continuing education), and safety policies.
- Comply with regulatory agencies’ requirements (e.g., DHEC, DEA).
- Retrieve, package, and label medications accurately for routine deliveries.
- Prepare deliveries and ensure they leave on time; deliver medication and retrieve documents/materials from units.
- Fill medication bins accurately and timely for cart exchange.
- Respond to STAT medication requests promptly.
- Packing medications for unit-dose delivery.
- Fill department requisitions.
- Dispense controlled substances in accordance with legal requirements, including labeling and record keeping.
- Stock and check assigned pharmacy and hospital areas for regulatory compliance with medication storage.
- Process crash carts timely and accurately.
- Demonstrate aseptic technique, mix, compound, and prepare medications, including IVs.
- Restock automated dispensing cabinets.
- Conduct medication reconciliation.
- Verify pre-packaging and verify packaging accuracy.
- Assist with tech responsibilities for re-dispenses.
- Other duties as assigned.
