We are seeking a highly motivated Environmental Scientist to monitor Camp Croft State Park in Spartanburg, South Carolina on a 12‑18 month project. You will work with vegetative clearing crews, conduct surveys of species of concern, and assist in the Munitions and Explosives of Concern remedial action.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Interact with vegetative clearing crews, informing them of areas of interest within the park.
- Survey for the 10 species of concern (8 plants and 2 animals) that could occur within the park.
- Work alongside clearance crews to maintain the natural diversity and density of the forest while mechanical clearance of the understory allows the use of geophysical scanning to detect targets of interest.
- Identify potential areas of interest such as listed species, potential habitat for listed species, nesting birds, invasive/exotic vegetation, and desirable canopy and subcanopy species.
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences (Biology, Botany, Ecology, Zoology, Ornithology, Ichthyology, Entomology, etc.), Forestry, Conservation Biology, or a similar degree. Preferred.
- Experience in a similar project, internship, or field class focused on identifying native South Carolina flora and fauna.
- Experience identifying Federal and State‑listed species that may occur on site.
- Comfortable with public speaking.
- Ability to work outdoors in all seasons.
- 24 or 40‑hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training in the Spartanburg/Greenville/Clemson SC area.
- Must pass a pre‑employment drug screening (post‑accepted offer) and have an acceptable background check.
- Applicable to the contract, must obtain required clearance levels and access to military installations if needed.

Physical and Working ConditionsThe position requires the ability to maneuver around work sites, see, hear, and verbally communicate with co‑workers and clients. Tasks may involve bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods; frequent outdoor work in extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, or other inclement weather; walking over rough or uneven surfaces; routine lifting up to 35 pounds; and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work locations include office and outdoor site settings. Office exposure includes computer screens and extensive use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse. Outdoor exposure includes walking, driving, and carrying supplies in all seasons with exposure to heat and cold, occasional fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
