Overview
The Campus Police Officer performs the duties of a state law enforcement officer for the University of South Carolina Upstate in accordance with South Carolina Code of Laws 23-6-430 by enforcing state criminal and traffic laws and university policies, rules and regulations. Protects persons and property while enforcing said rules, regulations and policies of the University and provides highly visible patrols within the University’s sphere of influence.
QualificationsPossess a valid South Carolina driver’s license. A successful background is required.
Salary Range$45,036 - $50,396; salary commensurate with education and experience.
Sign-On BonusSign‑On Bonus: $7,500 for new hire applicants who are currently working either as a Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer certified by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy or who have been inactive with a law enforcement agency for less than 12 months and can have Class 1 certification immediately reinstated upon hire.
- $1,750 after successful completion of field training.
- $750 after successful completion of 1st anniversary.
- $2,500 after successful completion of 2nd anniversary.
- $2,500 after successful completion of 3rd anniversary.
- Wearing of beards is authorized.
- Outer protective vests are provided for officers as standard wear.
- All uniforms and duty shoes are paid for by USC Upstate.
- Built‑in overtime up to $7,000.00.
- Free university tuition after six months of employment, including up to four classes per year (value $5,798.00) used at any University of South Carolina campus.
- $25.00 annual fee for USC Upstate employee’s on‑campus wellness center which includes an Olympic pool, free weights, weight machines, indoor track, aerobic classes and selectorized Matrix equipment.
