The Urgent Care Physician provides timely, high-quality medical care for patients presenting with acute illnesses and minor injuries in an urgent care setting. This role focuses on rapid evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of non-life-threatening conditions, emphasizing patient-centered care, efficiency, and appropriate care coordination.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEvaluate and treat patients with acute medical conditions and minor injuries
Manage common urgent care presentations such as respiratory infections, gastrointestinal illnesses, musculoskeletal injuries, lacerations, burns, and minor trauma
Perform procedures consistent with training and privileges, including suturing, splinting, incision and drainage, and wound care
Order and interpret diagnostic tests including laboratory studies, X-rays, and point-of-care testing
Prescribe medications and provide treatment plans appropriate to urgent care settings
Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care
Identify patients requiring higher levels of care and coordinate transfers to emergency departments or specialty services
Document patient encounters accurately and in a timely manner
Collaborate with nursing staff, advanced practice providers, and support staff
Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and patient satisfaction initiatives
Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
Completion of an accredited residency program in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine
Board-eligible or board-certified in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine
Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
DEA registration or eligibility
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
Ability to manage a wide range of acute conditions efficiently
Proficiency in office-based and minor surgical procedures
Excellent communication and patient education abilities
Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-volume environments
Commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered care
Urgent care centers with extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Shift-based scheduling
Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the clinical environment
Manual dexterity for procedures and examinations
Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient assessment and communication
