Black Hills State University is seeking applicants for a Program Assistant I in the Center for Civic Engagement.
Responsibilities- Assist the Director in all aspects of the Center.
- Process hiring requests for faculty, adjuncts, staff, and work‑study students.
- Track budgets and oversee funds used for purchases, invoices, and travel expenses.
- Assist the Director with grant reporting requirements.
- Procure purchasing and encumbrances, invoicing/accounts payable. Request for pay.
- Organize travel and reimbursement for faculty, students, etc.
- Organize meetings and take minutes.
- Perform detailed data entry and record‑keeping.
- Market the Center for Civic Engagement, the Center for Faculty Innovation, and the Sim Civics grant program; create Power Points and flyers.
- Provide updated website information to the marketing department.
- Respond to queries by faculty, staff, students, and the public by phone, email, and in person.
- Maintain calendars for both centers and grant activities.
- Coordinate operations with staff in other areas; perform other duties as needed.
- Create and revise office procedures for efficiency.
- Communicate professionally both orally and in writing.
- Strong proficiency in technology.
- Supervise other staff members; provide guidance and training.
- Conduct research, compile and analyze data.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.
- Maintain regular, reliable attendance.
- Maintain comprehensive budget records.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Exceptional people skills.
- Multi‑task across multiple interactions with faculty and students.
- Time management and prioritization amid multiple demands.

- This position is 100% grant‑funded; continued employment is contingent upon grant funding.
- Valid driver's license.
- Occasional evening/weekend hours to support events and programming.
