Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring L&D-specific experience and a South Dakota or compact RN license.
Responsibilities

• Position is in the Labor & Delivery unit of a hospital setting

• Unit has 8 beds and cares for L&D, postpartum, antepartum, newborns, infants under 28 days, Level 2A nursery, and GYN-surgical/mastectomy post-op patients

• Patient ratios: 1:2 for laboring patients and 1:3-4 for couplets

• Centralized fetal monitoring is in use

• Uses Epic charting system

• 48 hours per week on 12-hour night shifts

• Every other weekend and rotating holiday coverage required

• On-call participation required based on census and location

• Floating may be required to med/surg units within scope of practice, including CNA duties

• Primary responsibilities focus on care of laboring, postpartum, antepartum patients, newborns, and infants

• Opportunity to care for sick babies in a Level 2A nursery and post-op gyn-surgical cases

• Orientation is tailored based on experience, typically about 1 week for experienced travelers

• Support staff includes 24/7 lab and RT coverage, as well as a hospitalist in-house

• Hospital-provided scrubs are required

• Free parking is available on site

• Must commit to a fair holiday rotation (3 worked, 1 on-call) and follow facility RTO policies

• Travelers are welcomed and facility is considered traveler friendly
Requirements

• Active SD or compact RN license required

• Minimum of 1 year recent L&D experience required

• First-time travelers accepted if L&D experience is met

• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP

• Competency in EFM interpretation and intervention, as well as adult and neonatal assessment skills

• Must have completed a board-approved nursing education program

• Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility

• Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as travelers
