OVERVIEW OF THE POSITIONThe Senior Accountant III plays an important role in the day-to-day financial operations of DH. This is a senior-level individual contributor position for someone with a strong accounting foundation, several years of hands‑on experience and the ability to independently manage complex accounting work.
You will work across general accounting functions including general ledger, banking, client billing, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, financial reporting and month‑end close. You will also partner with teams across the agency on budgets, forecasting and financial questions while helping maintain strong accounting practices, internal controls and accurate financial records.
This role is a good fit for someone who knows accounting well and enjoys digging into the details. You’re comfortable identifying and resolving discrepancies, working through complex financial information and taking ownership of your work with limited oversight. You can also explain financial information clearly to people who may not have an accounting background and are willing to share your knowledge and support others on the team.
Requirements:Must-haves:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience
- At least 5 years of accounting or finance experience, including at least 2 years at the senior accountant level or in a role with comparable responsibilities
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting and internal controls
- Experience with month‑end close and maintaining accurate, audit‑ready financial records
- Experience managing client billing from contract through invoice, ideally in an agency or professional services setting
- Working knowledge of sales tax compliance, including determining what is taxable and preparing returns
- Ability to independently identify and resolve accounting discrepancies and recognize when an issue needs to be escalated
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working in accounting and financial systems
- Strong analytical, math and problem‑solving skills with careful attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while consistently producing accurate work
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain financial information to colleagues across the agency
