* Job Summary:

** GENERAL PURPOSE  This position performs technical and clerical work to support essential Assessor Office functions including but not limited to; providing customer service in person, on the phone, and electronically, processing senior and disabled tax exemptions, reviewing excise tax affidavits, evaluating business personal property accounts for tax purposes, maintaining Assessor records, and serves as a contact for customers (citizens, developers, title companies, other office personnel, etc.),

regarding various technical issues in the Assessor’s Office. Position works under the general direction of the Property Information Supervisor in accordance with applicable statutes and administrative rules. Work is reviewed for quality, thoroughness, timeliness, accuracy and conformance to established policies and procedures and, when appropriate, for effectiveness in dealing with customers.

**** ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
*** Assists the general public by correspondence, in person or by telephone to process forms, answer basic technical questions, takes complaints, and explain services, policies, procedures and schedules related to parcel data and segregations.
* Locates information from Assessor’s records and refers customers to other departments and/or agencies as needed.
* Scans, posts and routes real estate tax affidavits including reading and interpreting legal descriptions of various levels of complexity; enters sales information in database; determines if a segregation is required and sorts affidavits.
* Assists employees and the public with requests for parcel maps and information about ownership and legal descriptions.
* Evaluates business personal property within Spokane County for taxation purposes within the limits of Washington State law. Majority of work is performed in office, but field visits may be required.
* Collects fees for various maps, copies and reports. Prepares and sends billings as needed.
* Balances daily receipts and deposits receipts with Treasurer’s Office.
* Prepares reports related to cashiering activities as needed.
* Sorts, files and distributes form letters; conducts ownership research and enters data.
* Learns basic rules, regulations and procedures of related divisions with the department as well as other county departments and outside agencies for the purpose of recognizing and routing information.
* Determines exemption status based on ownership and other qualifying factors.
* Determines eligibility and coordinates with the Treasurer’s Office and the State Department of Revenue for special assessments on real property.
* Provides support, leadership and training for other employees, including new employees.
* Prepares and processes various correspondence.
* Responds to and assists the facilitation of state audits.
* Maintains inventory of forms and answers questions form the public regarding the filling out and processing of forms.
* Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

*** Processes Senior/Disabled Exemption applications for reduced property taxes.
* Interviews applicants and determines eligibility for exemption based on state and federal requirements.
* Processes exemptions and exemption cancellations including answering questions from customers and assisting in filling out forms.
* Processes annual mailings of exemption renewal applications.
* Appears before the Board of Equalization regarding exemption hearings.
* Performs other related duties and required/assigned.
