SCOPE OF POSITIONThe Lead Caregiver, as directed by Program Management, supervises all staff and children on shift to help ensure the needs of the department are met. Some work includes during Holidays.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE- High school diploma or GED
- Five years of successful experience working with children and management
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
REQUIRED
- At least twenty-one years old
- Work successfully with the challenging behaviors of children in care
- Effective communication and problem‑solving skills
- Pass a DCYF criminal background check and a Salvation Army background check
- Be free from communicable diseases as indicated by a TB screening
- Be emotionally mature and stable in order to provide consistency, structure, and nurturing
- CPR/First Aid training
- Blood borne pathogen/HIV training
- De‑escalation and restraint training
- Food Handlers permit
- Child Safety Training
- HIPAA Training
- May be required to drive TSA fleet vehicles and if so:
- Have valid WA Driver License, pass a Motor Vehicle background check and driver training
- Attend monthly staff meeting and trainings
- Attendance & participation in bi‑weekly lead meetings
- Training Tracks - required readings & reports for one year
- Have uninhibited physical mobility in bending and lifting up to 30 pounds
- Able to auditory and visual supervision of children
- Able to verbally and physically interact with the children in care
- High personal standards of cleanliness and thoroughness
- Plan and implement a high quality, age appropriate program meeting the needs of children in care
- Communicate effectively with professional agencies and administration
- Possess problem‐solving prowess
- Be emotionally mature and stable; ability to effectively problem solve
- Manage children's transportation needs; HEART program, bus schedules and other arrangements
- Administer progressive discipline action to employees when required
Oversee children's behavior management program - Ensure the safety of all children in care
- Ensure facility security; keep windows and doors locked and reporting any security concerns
- Submit repair requests to the Program Manager and Maintenance Coordinator
- Conduct monthly fire drills (on a rotation basis)
- Oversee staff schedules, time sheet procedures, and breaks; maintain proper ratio requirements
- Ensure compliance with WAC's and contract requirements for safety, ratios, etc.
- Prepare and present information on required training topics at all staff meetings
- Complete all intake and discharge paperwork for your shift as required by policy
- Maintain documentation of privileged communications with caseworkers, other agencies
- Administer medications to children and document daily
- Ensure compliance with Child Safety;
Report abuse allegations to CPS and The Salvation Army - Ensure protection of sensitive and confidential information; compliance with HIPPA
- Manage appointments and visitations for children in care
- Oversee employees, curriculum, homework and activities during assigned shift
- Function as a team member
- Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the policies and procedures handbook
- Follow all Child Safety policies and procedures
- Communicate program needs & children's needs to supervisors
- Directly supervise children in care providing consistency and structure; document daily activities
- Lead/participate in bathing, meals, sports, learning, swimming, field trips & tutoring activities
- Model appropriate social and interpersonal behaviors for the children; offer guidance as needed
- Assist the children in identifying and meeting their physical needs
- Clean the facility when needed
- Do laundry when needed
- Assist with snow removal when necessary
- Serve food to the children at meal times and snack times
