The Hatchery is a play development festival celebrating and supporting new works for the stage that center music and movement. Now in its third year, Many Hats Collaboration presents two workshop performances, which are the culmination of an 11-day rehearsal process and multi-month pre-production phase. One of the projects is a commissioned work, and the other is selected based on proposals submitted by artists.
In this, our third year of The Hatchery, we are expanding our rehearsal period and number of performances for both projects. Our selection panel represents a diverse group of theater artists who will be reviewing all proposals to provide an evaluation process that is equitable and reflects Many Hats’ goals to produce stories from underrepresented and marginalized groups.
There will be a $500-$1000 stipend for artists available.
Eligibility:
Individuals and groups of devisers, makers, and movement-based theater artists are encouraged to apply, particularly if your process doesn’t adhere to a traditional, script-based process. We are seeking innovative, conceptually strong projects in early stages of development, conceived by makers with a strong track record either individually or as a team. We will evaluate the applications based on the clarity of the articulated ideas and the centering of music and movement within the project scope.
Many Hats seeks to select projects that can be realized successfully and proposals that have clear and attainable aspirations. Finally, we are committed to producing stories from traditionally underrepresented groups and artists whose voices have been marginalized due to racial/gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or ability.
