DescriptionMEDEX Northwest is the Physician Assistant (PA) Program at the University of Washington (UW) and is a section of the Department of Family Medicine in the School of Medicine. MEDEX has five campuses located at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA; the University of Alaska in Anchorage, AK;
Kona, Hawaii; UW Seattle, and UW Tacoma.
This position / appointment is based in the Spokane, WA campus.
Position FTE: 0.6 - 0.8
The base salary range for this position will be $8750-$10,833 @ 1.0 FTE per month ($105,000-$130,000 annually @ 1.0 FTE) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
Position Overview:
Primary responsibilities include classroom and online teaching, curriculum development, chairing at least one course, and advising and evaluating students. The Teaching Professor functions as the program’s didactic faculty at each MEDEX campus and throughout the WWAMI area. The Teaching Professor is an experienced PA faculty member who is broadly responsible for instructing PA students in the classroom. The Teaching Professor is a annual or multi‑year position and is a 12‑month, non‑tenure track appointment.
This position assists in all aspects of the program including recruitment and the development, creation, delivery, and evaluation of the curriculum associated with the program and the University of Washington. They will also engage in teaching, scholarly activity, and service.
Additional duties of the Teaching Professor include lecturing, proctoring didactic activities, participation in the recruitment and the admissions process, ensuring compliance with ARC‑PA Standards, in addition to other duties assigned by the Associate Program Director (APD) for Academic Affairs and/or the Program Director. The position must be available for participation in administrative and academic committees and meetings, University of Washington School of Medicine and Department of Family Medicine meetings, as well as various retreats and projects at the University of Washington campus in Seattle and other MEDEX or WWAMI training sites.
Supervision:
This position is supervised directly by the MEDEX Program Director with accountability to the APD for Academic Affairs.
- Didactic Responsibilities:
Develop syllabi, lectures, exams, and student assessment instruments. Deliver course instruction including lecturing and facilitation of learning activities such as small group discussion, workshops, and simulation training throughout the didactic phase. Chair or co‑chair at least one course. Provide academic advising of students. Work professionally with faculty, medical directors, staff, and instructional faculty. Develop and nurture clinical sites and preceptors.
Participate in admissions activities, application review. - Programmatic
Activities:
Scholarly activity, committee participation, and other duties as assigned. Demonstrate a culturally competent approach to the unique disparities of healthcare access and delivery. - Student Support, Evaluation, and Progress:
Serve as a professional role model for students in all phases of the program. Proctor student skills assessments and grade course assignments in a timely fashion. Assist with evaluating student progress and clinical competency, ensuring achievement of essential practice skills for each rotation. Create written, audiovisual, and computer‑based teaching materials. Provide academic advising, meet with students on professional development, and implement retention strategies (tutoring, counseling).
Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner. Collaborate on the planning and scheduling of student orientation, mid‑year exam week, and final exam week. Review all student evaluations in a timely manner and address any issues raised by the student or preceptor. - Program Management:
