Position type: Adjunct (part‑time). Compensation will be pro‑rated according to workload. First review of applications will occur on 08/01/2025.
Starting salary: $40.83 – $86.87 per hour based on workload category.
About the posting: Spokane Community College, Rural Education Division seeks qualified candidates for an adjunct faculty position in English Composition and Literature. The instructor will teach English Composition I (ENGL 101) and II (ENGL 102); additional classes may be available. Classes begin September 17, 2025.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Prepare for and instruct transfer‑level English courses (Basic & Advanced Composition, Developmental Writing, Introduction to Literature, Poetry, Creative Writing, etc.) using traditional classroom and various modalities (ITV, hybrid, online, hyflex).
- Maintain and develop community relationships with local organizations such as regional libraries, historical societies, high schools, and community action agencies.
- Participate with K‑12 to offer dual/concurrent enrollment (Running Start).
- Provide student accessibility and support (office hours, email, timely communication) for academic consulting.
- Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through appropriate instruction.
Qualifications: Record of excellence in teaching, commitment to students and mission of the community college, expertise in composition/rhetoric and pedagogy.
