The Outreach Coordinator supports the Business Development team in outreach activities for all programs and services provided by STA including Fixed Route, Rideshare, and Paratransit services. Considers event requests and proactively plans an outreach calendar with desirable events for STA participation. Outreach responsibilities include; creating and leading how-to-ride & STA services presentations; assisting event attendees with questions and concerns; managing inventory of promotional items and brochures.
Utilizes Microsoft Office products for data entry, reporting, tracking, monitoring, and publications.
- This position will play a key role in representing STA at public events. They will serve as the friendly and accessible authority on the STA fare system, including reduced fare programs, routes and navigation, and STA resources.
- Plan maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, resource and benefit fairs, tabling and other communication opportunities.
- Attend commute trip reduction events, transportation fairs and other events, for the purposes of representing STA in the community, empowering new and existing STA riders, and increasing ridership.
- Excellent communication skills, interpersonal relationship skills, and experience with community outreach.
- Nurture new and existing relationships with collaborative partners, schools & universities, Community Based Organizations (CBOs), and institution partners.
- The Outreach Coordinator will also collaborate with Planning & Development, Communication & Customer Service, Operations, and Security (Transit Ambassadors and Transit Officers) on initiatives to enhance the rider experience.
- Must be skilled in engaging with individuals from all walks of life and varying communication abilities.
- Outreach events often involve interacting with community members who may have limited English proficiency, learning differences, heightened emotions, or strong opinions.
- The successful candidate will demonstrate patience, empathy, and professionalism in every interaction.
- The position will regularly document, review and report on their activities for the Business Development Team.
- Tracking and identifying various events to develop and maintain an STA Outreach & Engagement Strategy.
- Developing and maintaining a deep understanding of each outreach event to recommend if additional STA teams (such as Community Development or Service Development) should also participate.
- Documenting types of interactions, questions, complaints, etc., from outreach activities, noting any trends and patterns.
- Requesting and assisting with the development of new informational brochures or displays that may benefit current and future riders.
- Catalogue, store, and track STA promotional materials.
- The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for collaborating with various STA departments on their promotional material needs, working with the Business Development Team and Purchasing to order new materials that appeal to different rider demographics.
Training & Experience
A degree or certification in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, Transportation, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and two years of experience of general office and customer service experience. Must have an aptitude in public speaking and presenting. Skills in resolving group conflict; conducting group training, and reconciling accounts desired. Experience in sales, communications and data analysis is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting; stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; operate office equipment including extensive use of a computer keyboard; push, pull, lift, and/or carry light amounts of weight. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
