Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Discover Works Washington program is a free, full-day summer academic and enrichment initiative for rising first- through ninth-grade students. Funded by the Ballmer Group and coordinated by the educational service districts, it blends daily reading and math instruction with hand-on activities, free meals, and field trips.

The job of Discover Works regional implementation coordinator is done for the purpose of serving as the primary regional point of contact for Discover Works applicants and grantees, providing frontline implementation support from recruitment and application through program delivery and closeout, helping grantees navigate common statewide requirements within local operating contexts, coordinating the broader ESD infrastructure needed for success, and escalating issues requiring program-wide decisions or specialized expertise.

This position is grant-funded for two years, with the possibility of continuation contingent upon future funding.

  • Collaborates with others (e.g., ESD personnel, school district personnel, community organizations, etc.) for the purpose of a coherent support system, statewide guidance, use of common tools, accurate regional documentation, and feedback cycles to support implementation.
  • Supports full-cycle grant application processes through launch and recruitment, application review and selection, and grantee onboarding and readiness.
  • Directs and monitors required program evaluation elements for the purpose of assessing program effectiveness by ensuring grantees understand requirements and supporting the external evaluator with data-sharing processes, participation logistics, and regional contexts.
  • Distributes a variety of written materials (e.g., reports, templates, budgets, newsletter, etc.) for the purpose of documenting and communicating program expectations, budget requirements, key milestones, and shared learning opportunities.
  • Provides direct application coaching to grantees, including support in developing complete, realistic, and compliant budgets and implementation plans in all phases of the application process through program launch, surfacing gaps or barriers and engaging in rounds of feedback to strengthen submission.
  • Directs long- and short-range planning on sharing program expectations and requirements for the purpose of coordinating regional shared learning, in-person support, and connections to specialized project expertise; escalates issues requiring program interpretation, exceptions, or technical resolution.
  • Monitors regional readiness and key milestones, identifies barriers early, and provides direct support to grantees that are off track for the purpose of helping grantees translate statewide requirements into workable local plans, including enrollment, attendance, staffing, schedules, training, materials, assessments/rostering, and reporting readiness.
  • Participates in statewide/regional implementation meetings for the purpose of maintaining timely communication with grantees and project partners, current and accurate grantee information, documentation, and status tracking within agreed statewide systems.
  • Reviews budgets and financial documentation at key points in the program cycle, including application, enrollment adjustments, and closeout, and elevates material compliance or fiscal concerns as needed for the purpose of coordinating with fiscal and project partners on closeout, final payment readiness, required documentation, and unresolved grantee issues.
  • Tracks completion of required grant-management documentation, including contracts, data-sharing/privacy agreements, claim/attestation forms, expenditure reports, and payment readiness.
  • Conducts and coordinates site visits to provide support, understand implementation conditions, identify successful practices, and inform statewide learning, as well as support regional/site-level logistics for visits involving program, evaluation, communications, leadership, or funder partners to minimize duplication and burden on grantees.
  • Responds to a wide variety of inquiries from ESD staff, and school district personnel, general public, school districts, and other professional organizations for the purpose of resolving problems, providing information, and/or referring to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs related duties as assigned. Associated duties may not specifically be listed but are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's classification of work.
