Responsibilities
  • Establish the Power Delivery relationship with one or more local, key clients, including overseeing project execution, driving quality and delivery, providing technical leadership, marketing new opportunities, and achieving profitability.
  • Supervise and grow a local substation team of engineers and designers, overseeing workload, quality, utilization, morale, training, and conducting annual performance reviews.
  • Understand basic project management tools and techniques—client goals, contract types, risk, work breakdown structures, scope, schedule, budget, financial controls, earned value, and project closeout.
  • Collaborate with substation team members across the region and nationally, balancing staff workload, quality, utilization, morale, and training.
  • Build a network of relationships with technical peers in other offices to leverage resources for work‑sharing opportunities.
  • Coordinate with marketing and technical leadership for business development.
  • Thoroughly understand and implement the HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures.
  • Possibly oversee non‑engineering components of projects, including public involvement, environmental permitting, right‑of‑way acquisition, construction management, and other services.
  • Work independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise Project Engineers, Engineers in Training, and junior design staff.
  • Perform client management, project management, and/or technical support activities.
  • Represent HDR in marketing and proposal development for new opportunities.
  • Travel may be required for business development and execution.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Familiarity with Primavera or Sure Trak software.
  • Experience with Washington‑based utilities is desired.
  • Professional registration (P.E.) with a focus in Power preferred.
  • Preference for professionals with substation physical/outdoor design experience, including yard layouts, plans, sections, details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and associated bills of materials.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience.
  • Professional registration, license, or certification may be required based on role.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Good leadership and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to active participation in our employee‑owned culture.
