Position OverviewCoffman Engineers is seeking an Entry‑Level Bridge Engineer for employment in our Spokane office. Our primary marketplace is Washington, Oregon, and Idaho with other potential opportunities across the United States. The successful candidate will be independent, self‑motivated, energetic team player who is looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity within a dynamic and progressive firm.
This position will assist in managing, designing, and detailing bridge projects of a variety of sizes and complexities. The candidate will have the ability to network with clients of a diverse culture of private, local, state, and federal agencies.
The work is predominantly office based, but some field work will be required at times, including working at heights, confined spaces, near highway vehicle traffic, and aerial lift platforms.
ResponsibilitiesAssist in design, drafting, detailing, and documentation of bridge projects.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams.
Prepare design calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications.
Ensure compliance with AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications and Department of Transportation standards (WSDOT, IDT, ODOT).
Use software such as AutoCAD, PGSuper, Risa 3D, MathCAD, and Bluebeam Revu.
Maintain accuracy and quality of work; support project scheduling and budgeting.
Qualifications- Four‑year degree in Civil/Structural Engineering with an emphasis in bridge engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited university.
- Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
- Registration as an Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT).
- 0‑3 years of experience.
- Internship in structural design of bridges/buildings preferred.
- Knowledge of structural/bridge engineering coursework such as Prestressed Design, Reinforced Concrete Design, Steel Design, Structural Dynamics, Earthquake Engineering, Foundation Design, Timber Design.
- Experience with AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications and DOT bridge design manuals preferred.
- Experience with analysis software (AutoCAD, PGSuper, Risa 3D, MathCAD, Bluebeam Revu) preferred.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary design team preferred.
- Excellent leadership, supervisory, and communication skills.
- Self‑motivated and eager to learn.
Expected annual salary of $70,000–$81,000. Position is not eligible for sponsorship.
