Duration: 12-month Contract (with possible extensions up to 5 years)

Pay Range: $52.25 – $55.48 per hour

Role Overview

The Data Modeler is responsible for gathering and transforming business and technical requirements into conceptual, logical, and physical data models and repositories. This role designs, implements, and documents data architecture and data modeling solutions. The position requires strong analytical experience using modeling languages, technical product life cycle concepts, and requirements engineering.

Position Responsibilities
  • Perform logical and physical data modeling (including reverse engineering) using Erwin Data Modeling tools
  • Design logical data models including normalization/denormalization, referential integrity, data domains, primary and foreign key assignments, and data element definitions
  • Verify physical data models adhere to standards for database object naming, referential integrity, constraints, foreign key usage, surrogate keys, and denormalization
  • Negotiate priorities and resolve requirement conflicts among multiple stakeholders
  • Follow established standards, procedures, and guidelines for naming conventions, abbreviations, acronyms, and data model reviews
  • Analyze and translate business needs into long-term data modeling solutions
  • Evaluate existing business systems and data architectures
  • Collaborate with development teams to create conceptual data models and data flows
  • Develop best practices for data coding and consistency validation
  • Review system modifications for cross-compatibility and integration impacts
  • Implement approved data strategies and develop physical data models
  • Update and optimize local and metadata models
  • Evaluate implemented data systems for variances, discrepancies, and efficiency
  • Troubleshoot and optimize data systems
Position Requirements Education & Corresponding Experience
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer/Information Technology or a closely related technical discipline preferred
  • 1 year of experience with an applicable Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years of experience with an applicable Associate’s degree
  • 5 years of experience without a degree or with a non-applicable degree
  • Experience must include logical data modeling (not limited to DBA/physical-only experience)
Required Technical Skills & Experience
  • 1 year of experience directly supporting development and maintenance of GE-Alstom e-terra

    Habitat hierarchical databases and displays

    , OR
  • 2 years of experience supporting database modeling in a science or engineering organization
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Hands‑on experience with hierarchical databases in GE-Alstom products modeling power grid information for control center environments
  • Experience conducting data modeling sessions with business users and technical teams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts
  • Experience using JIRA for work tracking
  • Knowledge of database administration concepts including performance, configuration, and denormalization
  • Experience verifying system test data accuracy and timeliness
  • Knowledge of GE-Alstom e-terra

    Habitat databases and displays
  • Familiarity with NERC-CIP and FISMA requirements
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio
