Overview
Among Friends, LLC is seeking a full-time, hybrid Positive Supports Specialist serving the Eastern Washington area (DSHS Region
1). The Positive Supports Specialist provides relationship‑based, prevention‑focused positive support services to individuals with IDD, balancing in‑person work in homes and communities with remote documentation, planning, and team collaboration.
- Maintain an active caseload of individuals receiving positive support services.
- Provide services aligned with Washington State Positive Supports guidelines, including Life Skills, Staff & Family Consultation, Stabilization, and Specialized Evaluation & Consultation.
- Complete required plans, reports, and deliverables within state and organizational timelines.
- Meet minimum billable expectations (65% of work hours).
- Maintain accurate and timely client documentation (session notes, plans, reports, tracking tools).
- Complete Initial Plans, Quarterly Reports, and End‑of‑Service Reports in compliance with Washington State and Among Friends requirements.
- Communicate scheduling needs, concerns, and service barriers promptly with the Washington State Positive Supports Program Director.
- Work closely with supported individuals, families, provider staff, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Promote shared problem‑solving, consistency, and skill‑building across environments.
- Approach collaboration with curiosity, transparency, and a commitment to reducing power struggles and punitive practices.
- Qualifying degree (Doctorate, Master’s, or Bachelor’s) in social work, sociology, psychology, education, child development, gerontology, nursing, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities.
- Training or certification in crisis intervention and de‑escalation (e.g., MANDT, CPS, Right Response, or similar).
- Understanding of human sexuality and the Hierarchy of Basic Human Needs.
- Comfort discussing topics such as sexuality, gender, boundaries, consent, and relationships using a positive, developmental, and trauma‑informed lens.
- Willingness to engage in ongoing learning, reflection, and supervision related to sensitive and complex topics.
- Ability to follow all applicable Washington Administrative Codes, Federal Medicaid rules, and HIPAA regulations.
- Proficiency in Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets), Microsoft Office, email, and related technology.
- Reliable internet, computer/laptop, phone, and transportation for travel.
