Job Overview
The Goalkeeper Coach is responsible for facilitating, monitoring, and managing the preparation, development, and performance of goalkeepers in relation to the team’s training, game, and overall style of play. The Coach reports directly to the Head Coach and assists in player development, match preparation, recruitment, analysis, travel logistics, safety, and overall player wellbeing. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the success of goalkeepers and promotes modern trends and safety practices while supporting USL Spokane’s mission of community, safety, inclusion, and optimal performance.
KeyFunctions
- Develop, train, and coach goalkeepers for Spokane Velocity FC.
- Provide specialized training on technical skills, positioning, shot-stopping, and decision making.
- Assist Head Coach with development and training of all other players as needed.
- Coordinate and oversee individual development plans and player analysis.
- Collaborate with technical staff regularly for player development.
- Instill USL Spokane Mission, Vision, and Values in players and hold them accountable.
- Assist with player scouting and recruitment.
- Facilitate video analysis for match preparation and post-match performance assessment.
- Attend every home match and travel with the team for all away matches.
- Support administrative duties such as travel arrangements, community engagements, public appearances, soccer clinics, and camps.
- Assist with annual tryouts, player identification, and selection processes.
- Support all training sessions and work with Head Coach to schedule and prepare goalkeeper training plans.
- Connect with local soccer community to foster positive relationships and grow the USL Spokane brand.
- Maintain composure in stressful situations and adapt to heavy domestic and potential international travel with weekend, evening, and holiday commitments.
- Operate in a fast‑paced, constantly changing environment requiring an entrepreneurial spirit and goal‑oriented mindset.
- Contribute to all areas of the club’s operations to support mission and success.
- Respond to media requests and represent USL Spokane with professionalism.
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in sports management, sports administration, or a related field (a plus).
- Minimum of 2 years of coaching experience or an equivalent background in soccer.
- Combination of work experience and education may be considered sufficient.
- B license desirable; minimum USSF “C” Coaching License or international equivalent.
- Ability to pass comprehensive background check and maintain valid driver’s license and required insurance.
- Previous experience:
- Working with athletes, coaches, and technical staff.
- Strong knowledge of goalkeeping techniques, tactics, and modern training methodologies.
- Ability to build respectful relationships and communicate effectively with staff, players, and community partners.
- Positive presence when interacting with players and staff.
- Independent, proactive, and innovative problem‑solving skills.
- Passion for high‑performing team environments.
- Superior customer‑service skills and a commitment to making every interaction valued.
