Patient Care Technician - Med Surg (2500047W)
The Patient Care Technician or PCT provides a variety of indirect and direct care, including provision for patient's dependency needs such as nutrition, hygiene, safety, and physical and psychological comfort measures, to patient and significant others, under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with mission, vision, and values. Work is primarily performed in patient settings.
Extensive interaction with patients, staff, physicians, family members and visitors.
- Assist the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the PCT’s skills/training and the needs of the Department, and consistently assist the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN).
- Deliver high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living.
- Obtain and record initial and ongoing patient information throughout the shift, including admissions data, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, intake and output, calorie counts, and other patient information within their competency.
- Assist with patient activities of daily living: meals, bathing, oral care, grooming and elimination. Change bed linens as needed.
- Assist with patient mobility: positioning, repositioning, dangling, and ambulating patients including assisting with the use of walkers, crutches, canes and wheelchairs.
- Obtain the collection of specimens.
- Comply with all hospital policies/procedures and observe the State Board of Nursing rules for unlicensed personnel.
- High school diploma OR GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
