Job SummaryIn harmony with the Mission of the YMCA, and under the direction of the Program Director/Coordinator, the Sports/Swim Coach shall be responsible for coaching and instructing their team. The YMCA coach will work together with the assistant coaches to ensure that their team has strong leadership.
Education, Training and ExperienceMust be at least 16 years of age. Must possess competence and confidence to administer a safe program, good communication and problem solving skills, and understanding of community. Upon hire, complete Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You:
Service with CARE. Within 90 days of hire, obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification, and complete trainings on preventing sexual abuse in young children, principles of youth development, youth affirmations, and foundations of listening first. Within 90 days of hire, also complete trainings on ensuring safety, best practices. Within 6 months, complete Engaging with Families training. Get SMART is preferred.
Job-specific certification preferred.
A genuine willingness to work with youth, parents, staff and volunteers; sound mind and good character; good communication skills; safety minded; caring, respect, honesty, responsibility values; familiarity with YMCA rules and policies.
Physical and/or Mental RequirementsMust be able to lift and carry at least 30 pounds; may lift more with assistance; may stand for extended periods; demonstrate physical stamina and agility.
Job Duties- Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or violate the code of conduct.
- Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility, and care for equipment.
- Responsible for assigned equipment; report any damaged or lost equipment to supervisor.
- Follow safety standards and personnel policy set by the YMCA; report any accidents or incidents to supervisor.
- Participate in coaches meetings and parent orientations.
- Encourage parents to be involved in the program and volunteer.
- Teach the basics of the sport in a patient and positive manner.
- Maintain attendance records and enrollment.
- Arrive before the program begins to set up equipment and conduct a safety inspection.
- Review and lead value discussions each week of the program.
- Role model all aspects of SMART pledge.
- Maintain a clean appearance of the pool area and storage room at all times.
