Full Time Building and Safety Code Enforcement and Inspections Community and Economic Development. Under the supervision of the Building Official, the Building Inspector I-II-III is a non-exempt position under FLSA. This employee is responsible for performing technical building and safety inspections to verify and enforce compliance with applicable state ordinances, adopted city codes, standards and ordinances.
The role will inspect buildings, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems of industrial, commercial and residential structures within the City of Spring Hill. Incumbent should possess a strong mechanical aptitude, and effective organizational, public relations, and communication skills as well as be self‑motivated.
Responsibilities- Follows all applicable state and local ordinances, codes and standards in reviewing applications for building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, sign, land, fences, outbuildings, and special use permits.
- Performs on‑site inspections for light frame residential, footings, walls, underslab, building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, sign, land, fences, outbuildings, and final inspections.
- Computes building permit fees.
- Reviews plot plans, blueprints, detail sketches and specifications for compliance with codes and ordinances.
- Provides information to contractors, developers, homeowners, and the general public.
- Maintains acceptable project documentation and filing practices, including preparation of work logs indicating inspections performed and completion checklists.
- Approves fence, shed, sign, electric, mechanical and plumbing permits.
- Analyzes information, develops logical conclusions and makes recommendations within established policies and procedures.
- Investigates complaints.
- Assumes responsibilities of Building Official as deemed necessary (for Building Inspector III).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Marginal duties:
Assist with snow removal during inclement weather. - Duties, responsibilities, scheduling, shift assignments and work location may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
