Primary Purpose

The Elementary School Teacher is responsible for implementing the District's instructional program and educational philosophy in the subject area or grade level designated in accordance with District goals, policies and procedures. The Elementary School/Middle School Teacher collaborates with other members of the school community to prepare students to increase academic performance and meet state standards.

Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
  • Reading Certification for teachers applying to teach K-3 students or currently enrolled
Preferred
  • Five years of successful classroom experience
  • Reading Certification for teachers applying to teach Pre‑k, Grade 4, and Grade 5

Major Responsibilities And Duties
  • Teaches in accordance with staff assignment.
  • Displays effective teaching practices.
  • Completes effective lesson plans with immediate and long‑range goals.
  • Develops lessons appropriately.
  • Uses time effectively.
  • Chooses appropriate materials and activities.
  • Presents subject matter clearly and interestingly.
  • Coordinates and plans with team members when appropriate.
  • Plans with the librarian to provide an effective library experience for students.
  • Administers the classroom to create an environment conducive to learning.
  • Organizes procedures for effective classroom management.
  • Organizes the assigned area efficiently and appealingly.
  • Provides flexibility for individual and group activities.
  • Practices positive discipline techniques that help students gain self‑control and responsibility.
  • Maintains a positive, accepting attitude in working with students.
  • Cooperates with school personnel to provide for student welfare.
  • Supervises behavior and safety of students in classes, between classes and during school‑related activities on and off campus.
  • Works with counselors, administrators, parents and other staff to place students in the most effective educational setting.
  • Instructs students in school safety and emergency drill procedures.
  • Participates in special activities and programs for students and parents.
  • Initiates communications with parents, informs them about programs, raises concerns and keeps parents informed about student progress.
  • Collaborates with appropriate program director, department chair, and other personnel.
  • Administers an appropriate record‑keeping system, maintains accurate records for student evaluation, attendance, textbooks, materials, funds, parent contacts, conferences, disciplinary measures, and referrals.
  • Meets record‑keeping format and timeline requirements.
  • Exemplifies professionalism and a positive attitude toward the teaching profession.
  • Promotes understanding of District programs and policies.
  • Stays current in education through literature, workshops, conferences, professional organizations, and college courses.
  • Adheres to the Texas Education Code of Ethics and supports the District's philosophy.
  • Reports to work daily per schedule approved by campus principal.
  • Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment.
