Overview
The Elementary School Teacher (2nd Grade) is responsible for implementing the District's instructional program and educational philosophy in the subject area or grade level designated, in accordance with District goals, policies and procedures. The teacher collaborates with other members of the school community to prepare students to increase academic performance to meet state standards.

Qualifications Required- Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
- Reading Certification for teachers applying to teach K-3 students or currently enrolled
- Five years of successful classroom experience
- Reading Certification for teachers applying to teach Pre-K, Grade 4, and Grade 5
- Knowledge of subjects assigned
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Teach in accordance with staff assignment and apply effective teaching practices
- Complete effective lesson plans with immediate and long-range goals
- Develop lessons appropriate to the subject and plan with the team as needed
- Use time effectively; select appropriate materials and activities
- Presents subject matter clearly and engagingly
- Coordinate and plan with team members; plan with the librarian for library experiences
- Maintain classroom environment conducive to learning and manage behavior
- Maintain accurate records for student evaluation, progress and attendance as required
- Maintain records for textbooks, materials, and funds
- Communicate with parents about student progress and program information
- Collaborate with counselors, administrators and staff to place students in appropriate educational settings
- Instruct students in school safety and emergency drill procedures
- Participate in special activities and programs for students and parents
- Adhere to the Texas Education Code of Ethics and district philosophy
- Remain current in education and instruction areas
- Perform other appropriate duties as assigned
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. This description is not exhaustive of all duties and responsibilities.
