Teacher, Structured Behavior Support (SBS)
The Structured Behavior Support (SBS) Teacher supports students who exhibit challenging emotional, physical or maladaptive social behaviors that may interfere with their ability to profit from instruction in the general education setting. The SBS Teacher provides services ranging from monitoring and support facilitation inside the general education classroom to direct special education services outside the classroom based on student need. The role includes intensive individualized social skills instruction, monitoring social and emotional progress, and correcting or re‑teaching replacement behaviors as necessary.
The SBS Teacher also provides staff, administrators and parents with resources, information and training on ways to support students in the mainstream through the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans and behavior goals.
- Develop and implement behavioral services with fidelity.
- Utilize knowledge of the behavior management system and campus positive behavior supports.
- Supervise data collection, analyze data and revise or refine student behavioral instruction.
- Organize weekly SBS team meetings, share student data and provide staff development regarding behavior programming.
- Supervise the work of SBS paraprofessionals and maintain Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) certification.
- Implement classroom instructional programs and coordinate with general education teachers to ensure accommodations, modifications and behavior intervention plans are fully applied.
- Serve as the case manager for students on the Individual Education Plans (IEP) and ensure IEP implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements.
- One year of student teaching or approved internship experience.
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with general education endorsement(s).
- Valid Texas ESL teaching certificate.
- Experience working with students eligible for special education supports and services.
- CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training.
- Knowledge of special needs students and the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process.
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction and appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong technology skills including technology integration.
Typical duties require standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting and frequent interruptions. Physical mobility and the ability to lift at least 50 lbs are essential. The position is funded by federal and state grants and may be subject to termination or nonrenewal if full funding becomes unavailable.
