OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Cost Engineer to support focused energy project teams in the Greater Houston area. This role provides a unique opportunity to work onsite within a dedicated Project Services function, supporting all aspects of cost management across a diverse portfolio of investment delivery projects—from early inception through final closeout.
This position allows you to contribute to world‑class projects, collaborate with experienced professionals, and further develop your expertise in cost engineering and project controls.
Key Responsibilities- Consult with stakeholders to understand project requirements and objectives.
- Conduct feasibility studies to evaluate proposed projects.
- Support gate reviews, RFP processes, bid leveling, and preparation of bid tabs.
- Collaborate with contract managers and procurement teams to resolve contractual matters.
- Assist project managers with contract budgeting and cost control.
- Ensure all documentation—contracts, approvals, and sign‑off materials—is complete and stored in the designated repository.
- Interpret contract requirements and provide expert guidance.
- Monitor scope changes, identify scope creep, and manage adjustments effectively.
- Coordinate with project managers to ensure alignment with contract terms.
- Maintain current knowledge of contractual procedures and best practices.
- Work closely with project controls and finance teams to align CAPEX/OPEX procurement with cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting.
- Implement risk management, value engineering, and cost‑control measures.
- Continuously assess and optimize value for capital investments.
- Analyze project performance and prepare budget and progress reports.
- Advise on claims, disputes, and contractual issues.
- Prepare detailed cost reports and budgets for construction projects.
- Measure and analyze project costs and quantities.
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes for accuracy and competitiveness.
- Prepare purchase orders, change orders, and cost reports.
- Provide ongoing cost advice and support to project teams.
- Conduct value engineering and life‑cycle cost analyses.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Finance/Accounting, or a related field, plus 3–8 years of relevant experience
. - 5+ years of capital project experience preferred.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP or Polaris.
- Proven experience in cost engineering or a similar project controls role.
- Strong procurement and contract negotiation knowledge.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Self‑motivated, articulate, and highly organized with a clear analytical approach to solving problems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interface with engineering, architectural, and construction partners, suppliers, internal leadership, and cross‑functional teams.
