Mohs Surgery Technician provides supportive patient care functions for Mohs Surgery Department in the clinic Surgical Area. Provides supportive patient care functions under the supervision of a Mohs Surgeon, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Vocational Nurse, ensuring the safety and comfort of patients and families according to legal, organizational, and professional standards. Some duties may be delegated to the Mohs Surgery Technician by the Surgeon.

This position requires additional duties which include administration of injectables and or other high-level skill performance. The Mohs Surgery Technician requires additional duties which include demonstrating knowledge and scribing of medical terminology to assist in documentation during surgical office procedures. In addition, the technician may be asked to administer injectables and/or other high level skill performance:
Set-up/assist with procedures, sterile field, cosmetic procedures, removal of sutures, sterilize instruments, and manage pathology log to make sure all results received and given to patients and treatments are done.

• Demonstrates knowledge and skill needed to provide safe and effective care to facilitate the Mohs Surgical
• Department provider's practices which includes:
  • Injection of Lidocaine for local anesthesia in superficial areas
  • Surgical site scrub
  • Vital signs
  • Preparation and procedural set up for dry dressings
  • Sterile fields set up for MOHS procedure
  • Suture removal up to 10 cm
  • Documentation of all medications and procedures
  • Knows how to access the designated resource MD or RN
  • Seeks clarification or guidance with questions related to medication administration from licensed staff
• Patient Care Mohs Surgery Assistant
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill needed to provide safe and effective care to facilitate the Mohs Surgical
  • Department provider's practices which includes:
    • Injection of Lidocaine for local anesthesia in superficial areas
    • Surgical site scrub
    • Vital signs
    • Preparation and procedural set up for dry dressings
    • Sterile fields set up for MOHS procedure
    • Suture removal up to 10 cm
    • Documentation of all medications and procedures
    • Knows how to access the designated resource MD or RN
  • Seeks clarification or guidance with questions related to medication administration from licensed staff
  • Transport patient within facility as needed
  • Perform CPR as needed and assist during times of emergency

• MOHS Patient/ Surgical and Cosmetic Care
  • Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon
  • Assists Mohs surgeon throughout procedure with instruments and providing hands on assistance according to prescribed standards
  • Dress and provide wound care instruction for the surgery site
  • Assists with Cosmetic procedures, such as Botox, Chemical Peels, etc.
  • Able to assist with Laser skin procedures
  • Compiles and prepares surgical packs
  • Runs autoclave as needed Document observations related to health status and report findings
  • During Surgical procedure takes photos of surgical stages for Epic System
    - Haiku Application
• Scribe
  • The Scribe works to facilitate patient flow through ambulatory clinics and ensure an accurate and complete medical record for each patient
  • In accordance with policy, prepares and assembles medical record documentation/chart for physician prior to and during patient visit. Ensures all documentation is accurate and timely
  • The Scribe assists the medical provider by accompanying them during the surgical procedure
