Job Description & How to Apply Below
Description The Enterprise Print Technical Specialist is a hands-on engineering role focused on reproducing, isolating, validating, and resolving complex printer and multifunction-device issues in enterprise environments. Work spans printer mechanics, image quality, firmware, Windows print services, networking, authentication, and fleet management. The specialist builds representative test environments, investigates recurring failures, separates device faults from environmental causes, and produces evidence supporting remote resolution, lab validation, or onsite service.
We welcome candidates from OEM printer service engineering, Managed Print Services, enterprise fleet support, and technical escalation teams. This is not a routine parts-replacement or print-server-only position. Candidates must demonstrate strong physical printer knowledge, systematic troubleshooting, and independent diagnostic judgment. HERO workflows, WXP, Intune, automation, and customer-specific processes can be taught; enterprise Print fundamentals must already be established.
- Lead complex print investigations. Own recurring paper jams, feed failures, image defects, offline or connectivity problems, scanner/ADF issues, authentication failures, and faults persisting after previous repairs.
- Reproduce enterprise print environments. Build controlled setups reflecting printer models, firmware, drivers, queues, print servers, network configurations, media, and security settings encountered by customers.
- Use disciplined root-cause isolation. Compare working versus failing devices, inspect error histories and prior service actions, vary one factor at a time, and distinguish hypotheses from confirmed causes.
- Diagnose physical printer systems. Investigate paper paths, trays, rollers, sensors, fusers, imaging/transfer components, toner systems, formatter boards, scanner/ADF mechanisms, and finishing accessories.
- Resolve recurring jams and print-quality issues. Interpret jam locations, page counts, media, image defects, calibration, consumable condition, and service history to identify patterns beyond simple part replacement.
- Troubleshoot the end-to-end print path. Trace an issue through endpoint, driver, spooler/queue, print server, network, authentication, firmware, and printer to separate hardware faults from software and environmental causes.
- Apply remote and fleet diagnostics. Use device status, Embedded Web Server, event logs, remote recovery, and enterprise fleet tools where available; determine when lab analysis or physical service is necessary.
- Validate security and connectivity. Investigate TCP/IP, DNS/DHCP, SNMPv3, TLS/certificates, Secure Print, access controls, and printer authentication in managed environments.
- Perform firmware, driver, and workflow validation. Compare printer behavior before and after firmware, driver, operating-system, queue, or configuration changes; verify fixes and identify regressions before rollout.
- Develop repeatable validation plans. Create controlled tests for paper handling, print/scan workflows, connectivity, remote reboot, configuration changes, and recurring faults; capture expected versus actual results.
- Collect engineering-quality evidence. Document model, page count, error/jam history, supplies, firmware, drivers, configurations, logs, reproduction steps, and previous repairs to support effective escalations.
- Partner with engineering and service teams. Work with product/R&D, Managed Print Services, field support, and customer teams to investigate difficult issues, validate repairs, and provide actionable technical handoffs.
- Improve service efficiency and readiness. Build diagnostic playbooks, share practical printer knowledge, identify automation opportunities, and reduce repeat dispatches without replacing necessary onsite service.
