OverviewPosition responsible for supporting the Nurse Manager in providing leadership to the department – overseeing the daily operations – managing and developing departmental staff, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team in the delivery of patient care, utilizing the nursing process, ensuring the delivery of quality care to patients. Provides 24/7 (as appropriate) support of the department/unit. Typically reports to a Manager, Nursing or Director, Nursing.
Responsibilities- Assist with deployment of departmental goals that support the mission, vision and values of the organization.
- Assist leadership with managerial responsibilities.
- Manage day-to-day operational components of the unit as delegated by the manager/director, including input on staffing and scheduling.
- Plan, coordinate, and direct effective coordination of care between units, nurses and providers; assist with staff scheduling.
- Provide patient care assistance during emergencies and as needed.
- Serve as a resource to staff; act as a mentor/coach to staff, medical personnel, patients and families.
- Guide staff in quality improvement efforts for all shifts and ensure adherence to PI or quality standards.
- Identify and address disciplinary issues in collaboration with leadership.
- Ensure access to supplies and input on budget preparation; promote intra/interdepartmental communication.
- Support service excellence and evidence-based clinical practice; lead leadership rounds on patients.
- Respond to customer complaints promptly; address high-risk social situations appropriately.
- Adhere to regulatory standards and Memorial Hermann policies within budgetary specifications.
- Encourage professional growth, meet mandatory/continuing education requirements, and serve as preceptor or mentor when appropriate.
- Demonstrate commitment to compassionate and personalized care experiences for patients and colleagues.

- Education:
BSN required; if Bachelor’s is not in Nursing, a Master’s degree in Nursing is required. - Licenses/Certifications:
Current State of Texas license or temporary/compact license to practice professional nursing;
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; professional certification in clinical area or management within one year of exam eligibility. - Experience/Knowledge/
Skills:
3+ years of experience in the clinical area of practice; demonstrated leadership experience. - Other:
Certification strongly preferred;
Charge Nurse experience strongly preferred; ability to work rotating shifts and weekends; no holidays noted in one role variant.
- FT/Nights; 3x12s, rotating shifts with weekends as defined by schedule.
