Job Purpose Summary
This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of irrigation systems within the District.
Key Functions, Essential Duties, and Responsibilities- Repairs, replaces, and installs various types of irrigation systems to ensure optimal functioning is maintained.
- Maintains and troubleshoots issues in both two-wire and four-wire irrigation systems.
- Programs timers, performs diagnostics, and completes repairs of sprinkler control problems.
- Excavates and digs trenches for laying irrigation lines or installing system components to ensure precise execution and minimal disruption.
- Prepares new irrigation sites by adjusting terrain to enhance water distribution and drainage efficiency.
- Assists other personnel by providing technical support and expertise as needed.
- Assists in conducting evaluations of existing irrigation systems to identify potential improvements and necessary upgrades.
- Assists with water use audits to ensure the irrigation system operates at maximum efficiency and minimal waste.
- Adheres to adjustments in irrigation schedules and settings based on seasonal weather conditions and plant requirements.
- Supports the implementation of upgrades to existing systems to incorporate new irrigation technologies.
- Participates in sustainability initiatives, such as recycling, to reduce waste and optimize environmental outcomes.
- Participates in special projects as assigned.
- Performs work in accordance with department and district standards and regulations.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of compliance standards and regulatory requirements.
- Monitors for variances and anomalies, reporting any suspected compliance issues.
- Assists with audits and preparation for audits.
- Adheres to all district-wide policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates support toward the District’s Shared Vision, Mission, and Promise 2 Purpose.
- Participates in ongoing education and professionalism development.
- Maintains an operating vehicle and tools in safe condition.
- High school diploma or equivalent GED.
- One year of experience working in a similar capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Active, valid, and in good standing Irrigation License through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
- Active, valid, and in good standing Texas Driver’s License.

- Detail-Oriented – pays close attention to details to produce high quality work.
This position requires prolonged standing, walking, climbing, lifting, carrying, and repetitive use of hands and arms. Tasks include handling objects up to 50 lbs, digging, bending, and operating heavy machinery. Work environment alternates between climate-controlled areas and outdoor settings with exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, vapors, and hazards. Use of PPE is required and a motor vehicle may be operated on public roadways.
