Building Mechanic – AM High School at Spring ISD
About the PositionReporting To: Facility Foreman
Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt
Pay Grade: Aux 7
Annual Salary Range: $40,352 – $47,486
Primary
Purpose:
The High School Building Mechanic maintains the physical building to ensure it is in optimal condition for educational use.
- Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on auxiliary mechanical systems.
- Conduct scheduled, periodic operational and maintenance checks on building systems and equipment.
- Repair minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and paint items; assist technicians as needed.
- Check A/C filters bi‑monthly and replace as necessary; keep a maintenance filter log.
- Monitor control panels and maintain all building complex systems.
- Clean condenser coils on chillers every 6 months and on fan coil units once a year.
- Inspect roof drains, gutters, and downspouts at least once a week.
- Respond to emergency call‑outs (24/7) and other crisis situations.
- Work night and varying shifts as required; handle parking lot repairs, move furniture and equipment.
- Follow all safety regulations related to any and all job functions.
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
- Five+ years of experience in a related field.
- Basic skills and knowledge to perform preventative maintenance and minor repair of physical facility MEP auxiliary systems.
- Knowledge of potential hazards and necessary safety precautions with equipment.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to perform tasks involving bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and walking.
- Normal mobility of fingers, hands, wrists, arms, neck, back, waist, legs, knees, and ankles.

- Lift up to 150 pounds and carry up to 25 pounds for distances up to 20 feet.
- Climb ladder up to 14 feet and handle 30 shifts per 8h work period.
- Average hearing.
- Corrected 20/20 vision.
- Good depth perception.
- Use of chemicals.
- Exposure to normal noise levels.
- Occasional outdoor work.
- Work both inside (with/without AC) and alone or as part of a team.
- Rubber gloves and goggles when handling chemicals.
- Back support belts when lifting.
- Day‑1 orientation:
Hazardous Communications, MSDS, Fire Safety, Proper Lifting Techniques, Eye Safety. - Asbestos awareness course within first 90 days.
- 24 hours of hands‑on training by a district building mechanic.
- 8 hours of hands‑on training in assigned facility under supervisor.
