Position: Adventure Guide

Job description:

Please read the entire job description before applying, particularly the physical requirements. Please also note that this is not a summer-only position. Our hiring and initial onboarding/training begins in early summer, with advanced training taking place mid-summer. We aim to have fully trained Adventure Guides ready to go by late summer or early fall.
New team members may also start as Grounds Hosts, with the opportunity to be trained and promoted to Adventure Guide within 4-6 weeks of hiring.

Position Summary:

The guide’s role is to ensure that every guest has an amazing and memorable experience. Guides are responsible for providing safety and instructional information regarding the various activities at the park and assisting guests as they go through their own personal adventure! This is a great entry level job in the outdoor adventure industry that includes training and provides experience that climbers and outdoor sports enthusiasts can appreciate, especially those who enjoy providing memorable experiences to others as they step outside their comfort zone.

Position

Description:

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Navigate, traverse, ascend, and descend all course elements, structures and ziplines
  • Conduct course inspections and report/record results
  • General maintenance of all course elements, structures, and ziplines
  • Put harnesses, helmets, and other gear on guests and inspect for proper fit
  • Supervise use of the rock wall, ninja course, and other park activities
  • Teach guests how to use equipment and traverse courses
  • Guide, encourage, and reassure guests throughout courses
  • Provide physical assistance (rescues) at height
  • Send/receive guests on our 42′ simulated free fall experience and 555′ dual-zip ziplines
  • Write reports and complete forms
  • Provide first aid
  • When not engaged with guests, will participate in general maintenance projects, including landscaping, creating new elements, painting, etc.

Training is provided and includes skills that compliment recreational climbers, outdoor enthusiasts, and career-minded individuals. This includes:

  • Knots, hitches, coils, and rope management skills
  • Working at height equipment (e.g., technical gear, carabiners, haul systems, etc.)
  • Safety and risk management
  • Facilitating experiences in challenging environments
  • Rescues at height
  • Team building (corporate and private events)
  • First Aid / CPR certification
  • Instructing and coaching

Physical requirements:

All new Adventure Guides must meet minimum physical requirements necessary to perform essential job tasks, including retrievals and rescues. Candidates will be tested on these in a group setting as part of the interview process, so please ensure you meet the requirements before applying.

  • – Able to climb a 24 foot rock wall from the ground to the top 4 times consecutively. The climbing routes are not technically difficult, but are physically demanding.
  • – Able to wear a 35-pound bag and pull up a 155-foot section of cable at a 3.5% incline using standard ziplining PPE.
  • – Ways to self-assess the ability to perform these tasks is to complete at least three strict dead hang pull-ups, or 5 kipping pull-ups, or hang from a bar with the nose above the bar for at 10 seconds, at a MINIMUM. Please research these exercises and perform the self-assessment at home to ensure you can satisfactorily perform this requirement.
