Bereavement Counselor – (LMSW or LCSW) –
Circle of Life
Part‑time position: weekdays with occasional weekend hours.
Support Circle of Life's Bereavement Services program by providing counseling services to individuals and families grieving the loss (or anticipated loss) of a loved one. Clients span all ages and backgrounds.
Qualifications- Valid LMSW or LCSW certification issued by the State of Arkansas, without restrictions.
- Minimum one year of related clinical experience in a hospice, medical, or mental health setting.
- Demonstrated clinical experience with life‑threatening and chronic illness, grief and loss, individual, family, and group counseling.
- Knowledge of grief modalities, therapeutic interventions, and best practices.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use good judgment with sensitive client information.
- Strong presentation skills and knowledge of community referral sources.
Position Requirements
- Provide one‑to‑one and/or group counseling to those grieving the death of a loved one (past or future) or living with a life‑threatening or terminal illness.
- Prepare and maintain electronic clinical case files using designated client‑tracking software; record client data and submit weekly clinical session logs/reports.
- Participate in staff, team, and community meetings; contribute knowledge to nurture a learning environment.
- Provide on‑site and follow‑up (in person and telephone) clinical interventions/consultations for hospice patients and families, including children and teens.
- Provide counseling to persons in crisis and critical incident, stress management and bereavement services.
- Maintain communication with primary care physicians, clinicians, and other professionals involved in each care plan.
- Conduct initial assessments, maintain and update treatment plans as needed.
- Document contacts with outside agencies and professionals and make referrals to community resources.
- Provide bereavement support for community members; debrief and participate in community presentations.
- Consult for clinical supervision as needed; provide supervision for MSW interns.
- Use the Electronic Medical Records system daily.
- Participate in program development of the department.
- Provide backup to the social work team.
- Support Circle of Life staff and community professionals with grief and loss issues as needed.
- Follow bereavement policies and procedures.
- Accountable for direct delivery of bereavement care services provided by Circle of Life Hospice.
- Assess, plan, implement, and document appropriate interventions.
- Demonstrate compassion, empathy, and patience when interacting with patients, families, co‑workers, and the public.
- Represent Circle of Life in a positive manner to the community.
- Show flexibility, versatility, and a positive attitude when integrating additional duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
