Job Description:
Position Summary The Shipping Clerk is responsible for preparing and maintaining all shipping documentation for domestic and international customer orders. This role coordinates with carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, customer service, and warehouse personnel to ensure shipments are properly documented, compliant with applicable regulations, and processed accurately and on time.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and process all domestic and international shipping documentation.
* Generate bills of lading, packing lists, commercial invoices, certificates of origin, shipper's letters of instruction (SLI), and other export documents as required.
* Create shipping paperwork and labels for customer orders using ERP and carrier systems.
* Ensure export documentation complies with customs, regulatory, and customer requirements.
* Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and transportation providers regarding shipment documentation and export procedures.
* Review orders for accuracy and verify shipping information, customer requirements, and routing instructions.
* Maintain shipping records and documentation in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
* Track shipments and provide shipment status updates to internal stakeholders and customers as needed.
* Resolve documentation discrepancies, shipping issues, and customs-related inquiries.
* Assist with maintaining Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes, country of origin information, and other trade compliance data.
* Support audits and compliance reviews related to domestic and international shipping activities.
* Collaborate with customer service, warehouse, manufacturing, and logistics teams to ensure timely order fulfillment.
Qualifications
* High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
* 2+ years of shipping, logistics, export documentation, or customer service experience preferred.
* Experience preparing international shipping and export documentation.
* Knowledge of international shipping procedures, customs documentation, Incoterms, and freight transportation methods.
* Proficiency with ERP systems, shipping software, and Microsoft Office applications.
* Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
* Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working with freight forwarders and customs brokers.
* Knowledge of export compliance regulations and international trade documentation.
* Experience with SAP, Oracle, Net Suite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar ERP systems.
* Familiarity with HTS classifications, AES filings, and letters of credit.
