About the Role:

The Heat Treat/Tocco Technician plays a critical role in the manufacturing process by ensuring that metal components undergo precise heat treatment procedures to achieve desired mechanical properties and performance standards. This position involves operating and monitoring heat treatment furnaces, including Tocco testing equipment, to verify material hardness and quality. The technician will collaborate closely with production and quality assurance teams to maintain process consistency and troubleshoot any deviations.

Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are paramount to prevent defects and ensure compliance with industry standards. Ultimately, this role contributes directly to the reliability and durability of manufactured products, supporting overall operational excellence.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in heat treatment operations within a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic understanding of metallurgical principles and heat treatment processes.
  • Familiarity with hardness testing methods, including Tocco testing.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, work instructions, and process specifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in heat treatment or metallurgical testing.
  • Experience with computerized furnace control systems.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems such as ISO standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to heat treatment equipment.
  • Previous experience working in a safety-conscious manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain heat treatment furnaces and related equipment according to established procedures.
  • Perform Tocco hardness testing on treated materials to verify compliance with specifications.
  • Monitor process parameters such as temperature, time, and atmosphere to ensure consistent treatment quality.
  • Document process data and inspection results accurately for quality control and traceability.
  • Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or process irregularities promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to implement process improvements and corrective actions.
  • Adhere strictly to safety guidelines and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
Skills:

The required skills enable the technician to operate complex heat treatment equipment effectively, ensuring that metal parts meet precise hardness and durability requirements. Proficiency in Tocco hardness testing allows for accurate verification of material properties, which is essential for quality assurance. Strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret technical documentation ensure that processes are followed correctly and consistently.
