Under immediate supervision, the Child Protection Assistant will drive or accompany Child Protection Specialist staff to homes to assist in investigations of child abuse and neglect. Responsibilities include conducting interviews with children, families, and community members, observing children’s behavior, and providing information on services available through DCFS and private agencies.
Essential Functions- Serve as Child Protection Assistant.
- Observe children and report to the Child Protection Specialist any unusual behavior relating to the mental, social adjustment, and overall health of children.
- Communicate to clients services available through DCFS and private agencies.
- Organize and maintain automotive records and materials, including mileage, maintenance, and expenses.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the position.
- Any combination of education, training, or experience equivalent to either the completion of four years of high school or two years of experience working in a public or private social welfare program with culturally disadvantaged populations.
- Must travel, with overnight stays as appropriate; requires valid driver’s license, daily access to an automobile, and proof of vehicle insurance.
- Must complete a background check and self‑disclosure of criminal history.
- Must have physical, visual, and auditory ability to carry out assigned duties.
- Overtime is a condition of employment, including scheduled, unscheduled, or last‑minute overtime; must be able to work evenings, weekends, and 24‑hour on‑call capacity.
