Position: Assistant / Associate Professor of Clinical FCM, Geriatrics SMS-3574

DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for a broad range of administrative, teaching, research and clinical activities essential to the development and operation of the Health Center and its Geriatric Program.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • I. TEACHING (20%)
    • A. Supervise residents and medical students in patient care activities at the Center for Family Medicine.
    • B. Conduct teaching rounds on hospitalized patients.
    • C. Provide teaching and modeling to fellows, residents and medical students on the principles, benefits and core concepts of interdisciplinary team care for frail geriatric patients with complex needs.
    • D. Work with geriatric interdisciplinary team members to define key outcomes expected from interdisciplinary care (i.e. Maintenance of function, decreased falls and delirium, fewer foleys and inappropriate medication, decreased LOS, fewer admissions in 30 days, increased patient and family satisfaction, infection control, etc.).
    • E. Actively precept as teaching physician in the resident outpatient clinics to include patient care aspects and procedural skills, time management skills, doctor‑patient relationship, professionalism, ethical and legal considerations, billing and coding.
    • F. Serve as a resident mentor.
  • II. SERVICE (75%)
    • A. Actively engage in the delivery of health care to an assigned patient population serving as their primary care physician within the SIU Center for Family Medicine - FQHC.
    • B. Serve as Consultant for Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine referral clinic and the Geriatric Interdisciplinary Assessment clinic.
    • C. Participate in teaching service rounds a minimum of five weeks per year and family medicine call.
    • D. Conduct nursing home rounds with residents and participate in assisted living rounds with the Geriatric team.
    • E. Participate in Center Peer Review and Quality Improvement activities.
    • F. Provide emergency services to patients as needed including those who are identified as having no primary care physician.
    • G. Attendance/presentation at national professional meetings.
    • H. Serve on the Center-wide Committees, as assigned.
    • I. Serve on school and department committees, as assigned.
    • J. Participate in community outreach projects.
    • K. Attend faculty meetings and resident conferences.
  • III. ADMINISTRATION (0%)
  • IV. RESEARCH (5%)
    • A. Contribute to the identification and implementation of appropriate research projects and publications in the area of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology.
    • B. Per RRC requirements, must complete a minimum of 2 scholarly activities every 5 years.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
  • Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois to practice medicine at time of hire.
  • Current certification in Geriatrics from ABFM or ABIM at time of hire.
  • Experience in geriatric medicine, program development and education, scholarly activity and career commitment to academic geriatric medicine.
  • Experience providing services to multicultural populations.
  • Experience dealing with underrepresented minority populations.
  • Sensitive to the needs of minority populations.
  • Must be willing to practice inpatient medicine.
