Description
Participate as a part-time (0.4 FTE) faculty member in the Departmental and Medical School activities as a Clinical Teacher. The incumbent has a major commitment to the education in the form of scholarly activities related to education, leadership, administration, and promotion of excellence in clinical care.
Examples of Duties Administrative (5%)- Academic consideration time (.05 FTE).
- Assume other divisional and departmental administrative responsibilities as directed by the Division Chief.
- Participate in Fellowship Program related activities.
The SIU Department of Medicine is committed to delivering the highest quality medical education across the learning continuum (e.g., medical school, residency, fellowship, continuing education and faculty development).
- Teach, mentor, and supervise individual students, residents, and fellows during outpatient consultations and follow‑up visits.
- Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, conferences, and rounds for students and residents taking the Infectious Diseases elective, as well as other learners in the Department of Medicine and other departments, including hospitals in communities of Central and Southern Illinois.
- Provide periodic seminars/educational sessions for the division.
- Prepare conferences for the Department of Medicine.
As defined by individual interest and in compliance with Department policy.
Service (80%)- Professional Services:
- Complete outpatient consultations requested by full‑time SIU clinical faculty, house staff, and community physicians.
- Develop and maintain a professional practice in accordance with departmental policy.
- A clinical part‑time equivalent (CFTE) of 87.5% which includes 7.5% clinical teaching. Based on the most recent Vizient 50th percentile benchmark and CFTE, achieve a minimum target of 1,419.6 RVUs per year. Specific clinical duties include providing two full‑day outpatient clinic days per week.
- Participate in University, SIU HC, and hospital committees as requested.
- Sensitive to the needs of under‑represented minority populations.
- Graduate of an accredited medical school program.
- Graduate of a formal specialty training program in Infectious Disease.
- Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine or eligibility for ABIM.
- Diplomate of the American Board of Infectious Diseases Medicine or eligibility for an Infectious Diseases Board.
- Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois or licensed by the State of Illinois prior to employment.
