Primary Function

Generation of ideas for program development in the areas of recreation, art, life skills, sports, technology, and other programs that assist academic and social success. Major aspects of planning, set‑up, and implementation of program activities, including identifying necessary supplies, space, and roles of activity specialists.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement activities within budget constraints to achieve program objectives in coordination with Site Director. Prepare monthly reports for Site Director and/or Director of Satellite Operations reflecting activities, including attendance and program participation.
  • Provide Site Director and/or Director of Satellite Operations with regular schedules and reports of activities. Take direction and implementation requests from the Site Director on program development, implementation, supervision and outcome measurement.
  • Assist Site Director with recruiting participants for the program and focus on participants’ personal development through diverse program offerings.
  • Implement guidance and discipline policies, communicate and maintain standards of conduct for program participants, and maintain records related to participants’ discipline situations and development issues.
  • Recommend new offerings in specific program areas and create and implement necessary plans to initiate new program offerings.
  • Plan and implement special events and activities that give program participants the opportunity to exhibit their skills.
  • Provide special guidance and development of participants assigned through the satellite sites project and other assigned projects, using intake and tracking forms to determine needs and complete periodic tracking.
  • Develop and implement opportunities for participants’ involvement in outside educational, recreational and leadership programs and activities, and plan, implement and lead field trips that complement program activities.
  • Represent the organization and interpret its policies, objectives, standards and programs to participants, parents, community organizations and the public.
  • Help maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the facility through encouraging participants’ involvement in keeping program areas clean and putting away supplies after use.
  • Assist with activities in other program areas as assigned, and assist Site Director with enrollment of students, clerical duties, and other record keeping.
Additional Responsibilities (Program Assistant specific)
  • Assist with completion and organization of student assignments.
  • Maintain accurate record of student assignment sheet completion.
  • Participate with classroom teachers to coordinate assignments.
  • Provide enrichment materials for enhancing 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
  • Coordinate with Site Director and/or Project Director to implement attendance and disciplinary procedures.
Relationships
  • Internal:
    Maintain contact with Site management staff to interpret and explain organizational missions, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information.
  • External:
    Maintain positive relationships with school district personnel, participants’ parents, and the public to assist in resolving problems and publicize the project.
Skills and Knowledge Required
  • Knowledge of youth development and ability to motivate and provide guidance to youth.
  • Availability Monday through Thursday, program hours starting as early as 1:30 pm, extending until as late as 6:30 pm, plus prep and planning time as requested.
  • Ability to relate to the general public, parents and BGCCIL participants in a friendly, positive and professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to convey BGCCIL policies and procedures to participants and implement appropriate guidance and discipline policies.
  • Ability to organize and supervise participants to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
