Summary

The Associate Director of Assessment and Accreditation advances the University of Illinois Springfield's commitment to continuous improvement in student learning and institutional effectiveness. This role focuses on campus-wide academic assessment and accreditation compliance efforts, ensuring alignment with Higher Learning Commission (HLC) standards. The Associate Director collaborates with faculty, staff, and leadership to foster a culture of evidence‑based decision‑making and institutional readiness for accreditation reviews.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate campus‑wide assessment initiatives that foster a culture of evidence‑based decision‑making and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure assessment practices align with accreditation standards and expectations. Maintain comprehensive records of assessment and accreditation activities ensuring documentation is organized, current, and accessible.
  • Provide expert consultation to departments and faculty on developing, refining, and implementing academic assessment plans; guide interpretation of results and identification of improvement strategies.
  • Support the design of measurable learning outcomes, curriculum maps, and assessment instruments that align with program goals and institutional standards.
  • Design and deliver workshops, seminars, and training sessions on assessment and accreditation best practices.
  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and dissemination of assessment data related to student learning and success, ensuring timely and accurate reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate assessment findings to leadership, faculty, and staff in accessible formats to inform planning and improvement while ensuring assessment activities support institutional priorities and strategic goals.
  • Prepare documentation and evidence for institutional and programmatic accreditation reviews, including annual reports and self‑studies.
  • Take a lead role in preparing the institution for major accreditation reviews including the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Reaffirmation of Accreditation.
  • Stay current with national trends and emerging practices in assessment and accreditation; recommend improvements that enhance institutional effectiveness and student success.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in academic assessment, including direct collaboration with faculty.
  • Experience supporting accreditation processes and preparing documentation for institutional or programmatic reviews.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in academic assessment, accreditation, institutional research or related field.
  • Experience developing assessment methods for general education, program‑level, and course‑level learning outcomes.
  • Proficiency with assessment and reporting technologies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of academic assessment, accreditation standards, and program review processes, including prior experience working with HLC or a similar accreditation body.
  • Demonstrated experience fostering a culture of assessment and continuous improvement in higher education.
  • Experience engaging and supporting faculty and academic leaders in assessment and accreditation efforts.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in synthesizing complex quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Proficiency with data tools and software, including spreadsheets, databases, presentation platforms, and visualization software.
  • High integrity, adaptability, and initiative; able to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
