CEC has an immediate opening for a CIVIL ENGINEER to work in the Roadway Department. The candidate will work directly with CEC engineers to develop knowledge and skill in the design of municipal, transportation, and other infrastructure projects.

You’ll gain experience working on a wide variety of conventional, unique, and complex transportation projects for IDOT, county highway departments, and local public agencies and municipalities. Your work may include roadway and highway design, ADA assessments and design, stormwaterdrainage, transportation planning, traffic engineering, corridor studies, and safety studies.

• Design and prepare roadway construction plans, typical/cross sections, erosion and sediment control plans, maintenance of traffic plans, storm water management, drainage design, signing and pavement marking plans.
• Perform other design-related tasks, such as quantity calculations, cost estimates, special provisions, geometric calculations, roadway layout, and grading plans.
• Use Open Roads Designer  to develop models and plan sheets.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
• 2+ years of transportation design experience.
• Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or plans to take it within six months of hire.
