Position: Licensed Clinical Social Worker - SMS-3482

Description

The person in this position will provide social, behavioral, and mental health services (including those related to addressing medical conditions) as a part of the Division of Developmental/Behavioral Pediatrics & Psychology. As a member of the Division, the incumbent will identify and help patients and their families address emotional and behavioral challenges that impact their functioning and effective use of medical care.

of Duties
  • SERVICE
    • Demonstrates a commitment to the mission and behavioral standards of SIU School of Medicine, providing excellent service to internal and external customers through collaboration, compassion, respect, integrity, accountability, diversity, inclusion, and continuous learning.
    • Provides direct clinical services (diagnostic interviews, therapy, behavior management training) to children and adolescents with behavioral health challenges and developmental disabilities.
    • Maintains a clinical practice in Developmental/Behavioral Pediatrics, conducting approximately 9 half‑day clinics per week in accordance with departmental, hospital, and SIU Health Care policies.
    • Coordinates care with other members of the Division of Developmental/Behavioral Pediatrics & Psychology.
    • Consults with medical providers and schools as needed.
    • Counsels families on service needs and provides guidance.
    • Develops and coordinates service plans, collaborating with agencies to form an integrated services network.
    • Assists families with accessing community services, providing information and social work consultation.
    • Prepares patients and families for referral to other resources and creates referral materials.
    • Acts as liaison between families and providers, advocating for families and clients' rights, arranging and participating in interdisciplinary case conferences.
    • Records clinical activities and prepares reports in the Electronic Health Record.
    • Collects and maintains current information about available community resources.
  • ADMINISTRATION
    • Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures for medical behavioral health services.
    • Participates in program planning and policy development for the Division.
    • Contributes to setting standards for behavioral health services in the Department of Pediatrics Multidisciplinary clinics.
    • Promotes cooperative relationships with health, welfare, educational, and rehabilitation agencies.
    • Leads development of working arrangements with social agencies for integrated medical services.
    • Collaborates on studies and surveys related to patients' needs and assists in evaluating services.
    • Investigates, develops, and implements strategies with social agencies to assist with funding care for underserved children, including grant writing.
    • Attends meetings and functions as requested by the Division Director or Health Care Administrator.
  • TEACHING
    • Participates in clinical teaching of medical students and residents, educating them on appropriate referrals and referral source use.
    • Assists in developing and implementing in‑service training and other educational programs.
    • Participates in educational activities such as in‑service training, orientation courses, staff development programs, and training projects.
    • Represents SIU Medicine Pediatrics as requested.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited school or university in Social Work.
  • Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker in the State of Illinois (or eligibility for licensure).
  • Sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
