Overview

Performs accurate scientific work in laboratory procedures on specimens from patients of all ages, using manual and automated methods, requiring independent judgment and timely reporting of results.

Schedule: Full Time, Day Shift, 6:30am-3:00pm, every other weekend

Bonus: $20,000 Sign-on Bonus!

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification: Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP or equivalent) required. If hired before September 2014, five years of MLS experience may substitute for registration.

Experience: Three to five years as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, with at least two years as a level II MLS, or three years of comparable experience demonstrating in-depth knowledge of global laboratory operations.

Skills: Light to moderate physical effort.

Responsibilities
  • Perform laboratory tests, evaluate data, and correlate with pathologic and physiologic states to determine data validity.
  • Calculate and evaluate quality control statistics to assess accuracy and reproducibility.
  • Perform analytical and decision-making functions independently, recognizing unexpected results and taking corrective actions.
  • Integrate data from various sections to identify discrepancies.
  • Assist in preparing and presenting teaching materials for the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology.
  • Perform maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, including repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Understand instrumentation theory, diagnose malfunctions, and operate all assigned laboratory instruments.
  • Develop, monitor, and review new test procedures for accuracy and reliability.
  • Research, review, and write technical procedures.
  • Manage laboratory specimens collection and control.
  • Ensure quality and timeliness of patient results, investigating any issues with specimens or reporting.
  • Recognize and troubleshoot unexpected results, errors, or interferences.
  • Maintain records of tests, results, and equipment maintenance.
  • Support laboratory operations, resource utilization, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., CAP, AABB).
  • Complete all testing accurately and on time within areas of responsibility.
  • Complete 12 hours of continuing education annually and cross-train in at least two technical areas.
  • Perform all tests within primary responsibility areas.
  • Act as operational manager in the absence of senior personnel.
  • Use resources efficiently to conserve hospital assets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations.
  • Assist patients, visitors, and physicians, demonstrating a welcoming attitude to foster good customer relations.
  • Align activities with Memorial Medical Center's strategic plan and Guest Relations Program.
  • Perform additional related tasks as needed.
