Construction Field Manager – Memorial Health

Location: Springfield, IL

Overview

The Construction Field Manager is responsible for managing construction projects throughout Memorial Health System/Memorial Medical Center. Projects cover a wide range of capital investments. The Manager will lead projects from early design to closure in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented, deadline‑driven environment, focusing on project details, finances, schedules, scope, material delivery and client satisfaction. Accountable for schedule, meetings, design teams, contractors and financial reporting.

Education
  • Required Bachelor’s degree in Construction Science or related field, or 5‑7 years equivalent healthcare construction or commercial construction management experience.
Qualifications
  • 5‑7 years project management, supervisory or leadership experience.
Licensure / Certification / Registry
  • ASHE Healthcare Construction Certificate must be obtained prior to or within the first six months of hire.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license and acceptable driver status per MHS Fleet Safety Policy (five‑year MVR required).
Experience
  • Three (3) – five (5) years of project management, supervisory or demonstrated leadership experience.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Strong construction knowledge, management, interpersonal relations and communication skills.
  • Understanding of inspection standards, regulations and interaction with state agencies and local government.
  • Detailed knowledge of construction including general, mechanical and electrical, blueprints, materials acquisition, staffing, cost estimating, contract administration, record keeping.
  • Ability to coordinate major activities, analyze and resolve problems.
  • PC and associated equipment, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project skills helpful.
  • Organizational skills in working with contract superintendents, medical staff, administrators, architects, vendors.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 101, 72, 99, 110, 1 life safety codes, AIA, ADA and specialty healthcare construction codes.
Responsibilities
  • Provides technical guidance to local management and construction services personnel.
  • Serves as primary contact between Memorial Health System and contractors.
  • Ensures internal controls, review procedures, technical requirements met.
  • Coordinates responses to contractor requests for information.
  • Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials and costs, adjusts schedules.
  • Monitors construction activities under applicable environmental rules.
  • Manages construction management, inspection, business development, proposal preparation and scope of work/cost definition.
  • Evaluates specifications to plan procedures and timings for phases.
  • Schedules and conducts bi‑weekly construction meetings.
  • Maintains construction precedents, standards, policies and ensures compliance with safety, hazardous and infectious material requirements.
  • Ensures General Contractor field checks mechanical, electrical and medical systems according to contract.
  • Oversees total construction effort to align with design, budget, schedule.
  • Responsible for project budgets and timely completion.
  • Prepares project status metrics/reports, updates project management systems.
  • Daily review and communication for multiple ongoing and proposed projects.
  • Accurately communicates project issues and activities to team.
  • Occasional to moderate travel may be required.
  • Performs other related work as required or requested.
