Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Operating Room RN with Level I trauma and general OR experience in an acute care setting, Illinois RN license required.

Responsibilities
  • Position is based in the Operating Room of an acute care hospital with 23 OR suites
  • Care for varied surgical patient populations, including general surgery, trauma, neuro, ortho, transplant, plastics, urology, bariatric, and emergency management cases
  • Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated hospital
  • Work 4x10 hour day shifts from 6:45 AM to 5:15 PM; one weekend per month required
  • On-call required one time per week (frequency may vary)
  • Candidates may be required to float within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals within their skill set
  • Uses Cerner EMR;
    Cerner experience preferred
  • Scrub uniforms are provided
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary surgical teams supporting all service lines except cardiovascular
  • Collaborate in a teaching hospital environment
  • Parking permit provided at no cost; form to be completed during orientation
  • RTO must be reviewed and approved by the manager, with up to 5 days non-holiday RTO auto-approved
  • Must work at least 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Candidate must not have worked as a permanent or PRN employee at the facility within the last 12 months
Requirements
  • Active IL RN license required at time of application
  • Minimum 3 years of OR RN experience required
  • BLS (AHA or Red Cross only) required
  • General operating room and Level I trauma experience required
  • Experience with specific surgical procedures including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, Whipple, cervical/lumbar fusions, craniotomy, laminectomy, arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, fracture reduction, free flap microvascular, organ donation, cystoscopy, nephrectomy, and prostatectomy
  • Experience with trauma cases such as amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, and multiple injury MVAs required
  • Experience with emergency management, including code response, fire safety, latex allergy, and malignant hyperthermia
  • Must have experience with electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables
  • Knowledge of blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling, Universal Protocol (Time out), and urinary bladder catheterization required
  • CNOR and CST certifications preferred
  • No local candidates within 50 miles of the facility will be considered
  • First-time travelers will not be considered
