American Traveler is hiring an experienced Operating Room RN for a Level I trauma center acute care hospital, requiring CNOR certification and a minimum of 3 years of OR experience.
Details- Work in a 23-room Operating Room within an acute care hospital
- Day shift schedule, 5x8 hours, 6:45 AM-3:15 PM
- Weekend requirement
- On-call requirement of approximately 1 shift per week
- Covers all surgical service lines except cardiovascular (CV)
- Cases include general surgery, bariatric, neurology, orthopedic, plastics, transplant, urology, and trauma procedures
- Uses electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities, within scope
- Block scheduling not accommodated
- Active IL RN license in hand or in-process required
- BLS certification required; CNOR and CST certifications preferred
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room nursing experience required
- General OR and Trauma experience required
- Level I trauma center experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- First-time travelers not accepted
- Experience with bariatric laparoscopic-assisted cases required
- Experience with general surgery cases including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, and Whipple procedures required
- Experience with neurology cases including cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, and lumbar fusion required
- Experience with orthopedic cases including arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, and fracture reductions required
- Experience with free flap microvascular plastic surgery cases required
- Experience with organ donation/transplant procedures required
- Experience with urology cases including cystoscopy, nephrectomy, and prostatectomy required
- Trauma case experience including amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, and multi-trauma MVA required
- Emergency management skills required including code response, fire safety, latex allergy protocols, and malignant hyperthermia management
- Proficiency in blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling, Universal Protocol time-out procedures, and urinary catheterization required
- SSN and date of birth required for consideration
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Facility is a 562-bed acute care, Level I trauma center with Magnet designation
- Scrubs are provided for this role
- Parking permit required at no cost, arranged during orientation
- All requested time off must be reviewed and approved by the facility manager
- Up to 5 non-holiday RTO days may be auto-approved; additional requests require facility approval
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
- Local candidates are not accepted for this OR RN position
- Previous permanent or PRN employees of the facility must be separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
- Travel pairs are not accepted
- Housing in the area can be difficult to find, so early planning is recommended
