Overview
Site Coordinator role at Playful Minds. Position involves providing the best possible environment for children in the assigned classroom, working with the Program Director on teaching, program planning, and center operation. Provides training and leadership to staff and assumes daily operation responsibilities; aims to maintain and improve the program and stay current with standard updates and changes.
Reports to:
Executive Director, School-Age Programming
Salary range: $17 - $20 per hour
Required education and experience- Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Guidance, Human Services, Nursing, Psychology, Physical Education, Recreation, Child Psychology, the Arts, Social Work, Sociology, or Child Care, AND 6 months experience working with school-age children; OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in any field or an Associate’s Degree in any field, AND 9 months experience working with school-age children; OR
- High School diploma or GED, AND 12 months experience working with school-age children.
- 6 months working with school-age children (with related Bachelor’s Degree); OR
- 9 months working with school-age children (with any Bachelor’s Degree or Associate Degree); OR
- 12 months working with school-age children (with high school diploma).
- 20 years of age or older.
- Evidence of medical physical within 1 year of employment and a physician’s statement confirming ability to perform the job.
- Evidence of mandatory vaccinations or immunity to communicable diseases (including TB).
- Annual CPR and First Aid, Infant & Child.
- Maintain certification with MA EEC and/or CT OEC.
- Participate in required professional development annually.
- All staff serve as mandated reporters as stipulated under state laws governing center locations.
- All staff ensure all needs of children are met.
- Ensure the health and safety of the children in the classroom.
- Ensure classroom practices are consistent with MA EEC or CT OEC laws and regulations at all times.
- Ensure classroom practices align with Playful Minds policies and procedures.
- Maintain daily classroom safety, organization, and cleanliness (e.g., cleaning, organizing, light housekeeping).
- Manage classroom to maintain MA EEC or CT OEC required child:staff ratios at all times.
- Ensure dangerous materials, equipment, or cleaning supplies are not within reach of children.
- Report incidents/accidents to the Program Director and complete documentation.
- Notify the Program Director immediately about inappropriate behavior or parent concerns.
- Plan and practice monthly fire drills and record in the fire drill log.
- Care for room and equipment; report repair or replacement needs.
- Document all incidents and accidents.
- Implement classroom policies as outlined in the annual Staff Handbook.
- Lead staff meetings and prepare training with guidance from the Program Director.
- Assist with annual staff orientation and regular staff meetings / professional development.
- Administer medication as prescribed and in compliance with EEC or OEC regulations.
- Plan and supervise any assistant teacher, aide, or volunteer assigned to the classroom.
- Be aware of school days off and arrange for extra staffing coverage.
- Direct child guidance to maximize growth and protect the group and individuals.
- Be responsive to individual needs and support development of self-esteem, self-expression, autonomy, social competence, and readiness.
- Be nurturing and responsive to children.
- Support self-esteem, independence, self-regulation, and social competence.
- Provide positive, consistent guidance based on individual needs and development.
- Communicate effectively with each child.
- Know the whereabouts of every child.
- Prepare regular progress reports for Program Director review.
- Maintain individual records as required by EEC or OEC.
- Follow proper handwashing before handling food, after diaper changes, etc.
- Implement and maintain a reward system for school-age children.
- Ensure only authorized persons pick up children and that proper checked.
